1. Q:
How much are tires for my car or truck?
A: Call us with the year,
make and model of your vehicle and we will determine the size
of tire that’s on your vehicle and list your options.
2. Q:
Do I need an appointment to have my tires installed at
Flynn’s?
A: No appointment
is necessary, however you may want to call to be sure your
tire is in stock.
3. Q:
Do I have to put the exact same tire on my vehicle that
originally came on it?
A: It is
recommended that you put the same size and speed rating
on your vehicle, but the brand and tread design is optional.
Plus sizing your tires is also an option that is popular,
even with the car manufacturer. However, the diameter of
the tire must stay the same and the load rating of the tires
must be comparable.
4. Q:
How do I know when to replace my tires?
A: One indication is
how your vehicle is handling. In wet weather, if the cornering
is loose or sloppy, or hydroplaning is felt at any time,
have your tires inspected immediately. However, it is best
to replace your tires prior to this point. There are tread
wear indicators running across the face of the tread on
all tires. It is recommended that the tires be replaced
prior to the tread being even with the indicators.
5. Q:
What should the air pressure of my tires be?
A: Air pressure varies from vehicle to vehicle. Tire
manufacturers recommend that the tires be inflated to the
specs of the vehicle if the tires match the original equipment
standards. To find the recommended air pressure, consult
your owners manual or the plaque located on the inside doorframe
of your vehicle.
NOTE: You should check your air pressure frequently because
seasonal air temperature changes causes tire air pressure
changes.
6. Q:
Should I buy snow tires?
A: That depends on
your driving needs. If you are someone who never drives
on wet or snowy roads and you don’t drive at night, then
your answer is NO. If your are someone who often hauls children
around or if you drive a long distance to and from work,
then why wouldn’t you buy snow tires? Why take a chance
every time it snows!
"All Season"
tires are only "All Season" in climates with moderate
seasonal changes such as the South, but not in Ohio or Pennsylvania.
Snow tires are actually winter tires. When the temperature
drops below 40 degrees, "All Season" tires become
hardened. When this happens, they lose some of their traction
(more important for stopping than for going up an icy hill).
Winter tires have a different type of compound and retain
their grip and traction even when the temperature drops
below 40 degrees.
7. Q:
How do I make my tires last longer?
A: There
are many things that effect tire wear. However, the three
major causes of premature tire wear are alignment, rotations
and air pressure.
1. The vehicle should
be aligned when you buy the tires.
2. The tires should
be rotated every time you have your oil changed.
3. Air pressure should
be checked weekly or biweekly.
8. Q:
Why should we put four snow tires on our vehicle instead
of two?
A: On a
rear wheel drive vehicle, winter tires on the rear wheels
works very well for starting and stopping.
On a front wheel drive
vehicle, winter tires are recommended for all four wheels
to stop the vehicle in slippery conditions. When a front
wheel drive vehicle stops in a panic situation, the rear
end will tend to swing around if it doesn’t have traction.
It’s nearly impossible to over steer a front wheel drive
vehicle to correct for the lack of rear end traction. That’s
why side impact accidents are so common on front wheel drive
vehicles.
On a four wheel drive vehicle,
it is recommended that you replace all four tires because
they must all be the exact same height. If they are not,
then the ratio at which the axles turn will be off. This
is bad for your vehicle and could be very costly to you.
9. Q:
What brands of tires do you carry?
